Roads Update – 26 May 2022
/in NEWSCouncil’s newly engaged pothole patching crew is working its way towards Bonalbo from Sandilands along the Clarence Way. Another crew is working its way along the Bruxner Highway. The other two pothole repair crews are working on the Summerland Way and Anzac Drive. They will then move to Wiangaree Back Road (gravel section while we wait for the next delivery of coldmix), Ettrick Road, Afterlee Road, Fawcetts Plain Road and Kyogle Road. We have had to return to Fawcetts Plain Road and Kyogle Road to repair newly formed potholes that have appeared since our last visit.
Council intends to start work next week to repair the badly scoured hill section of Theresa Creek Road near Dugans Road turnoff. Work to repair post flood drainage issues on Hillyards Road should be completed next week. The crew will then move to Boorabee Creek Road to clear landslips and address drainage issues.
Repairs to the Forest Road landslip will start on Tuesday next week. The job is expected to take a couple of weeks to complete. The road will remain closed during the remediation work.
The Lions Road is expected to open to LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY the middle of next week. There has been a significant amount of damage to the road due to landslips and it will open to just one lane of traffic in multiple locations. There will also be a two-tonne limit for vehicles using Lions Road beyond the Simes Road intersection. Council strongly urges motorist to continue using the Summerland Way route when travelling to and from Queensland.
Roads update – 23 May 2022
/in NEWSCouncil has added another pothole patching crew to its arsenal.
The catastrophic flooding followed by the sustained wet weather has resulted in an explosion of potholes on our road network.
This is our second externally-sourced pothole patching crew and it will join forces with our Bonalbo-based staff to improve conditions for motorists on the Bruxner Highway and Clarence Way. Unfortunately, patching potholes in the current weather is less than ideal, but we recognise that waiting for drier conditions is not an option. You will also see pothole patching crews on Findon Creek Road, Omagh Road, Edenville Road, Ettrick Road, Afterlee Road and the Summerland Way.
Work is continuing on the Lions Road landslip this week. Once all the debris has been cleared from the site, Council will assess the slips to ensure the road is safe to open to the public at the end of the week. Council will conduct a further site inspection of the landslip on Forest Road. Council expect to start earthmoving works at the site next week.
Work to repair post flood drainage issues on Station Road and Hillyards Road is continuing this week, while Anzac Drive will be under traffic control for the first half of this week as road crews carry out heavy patching.
Roads update – 20 May 2022
/in NEWSCouncil is working towards re-opening Forest Road in some form in June. We’re investigating a temporary solution to the landslip which forced the road’s closure, while we work on a permanent fix.
Work continued on the Lions Road landslip this week. We are still progressing towards opening the road by the end of the month despite the ongoing rain.
The causeway on Horseshoe Creek Road was fixed this week along with the spring on Imesons Road. Work to repair post flood drainage issues on Station Road and Hillyards Road will continue next week. The track around the landslip on Wender Road has been completed.
Ongoing issues with the ‘sink hole’ on Simpkins Creek Road have forced Council to impose a 10-tonne load limit on the road. Council is working with residents to ensure the load limit does not cause too many adverse impacts on the community.
Council continues to patch potholes on Clarence Way having almost made it to Old Bonalbo from Woodenbong. The crew will move to Bonalbo to repair some dangerous potholes in the town before moving south from Old Bonalbo. We are completing the last couple of sections on Kyogle Road, and we have finished work on Fawcetts Plain Road, Collins Creek Road, Wiangaree Back Road, Mt Lindesay Highway, and streets in Woodenbong. Unfortunately, the ongoing rain and the saturated subsoil means that as soon as we finish repairing one section of road, more potholes appear. Next week you will see pothole repair crews on Clarence Way, Findon Creek Road, Omagh Road, Lynches Creek Road, Summerland Way and the Bruxner Highway.
Applications now open for Community Building Partnership grants

Kyogle roads update – 16 May 2022
/in NEWSCouncil was forced to close Forest Road on Friday due to a landslip. Council is assessing the landslip, in the meantime Forest Road will join Lions Road, Geneva Street and Baileys Bridge Road on the closure list.
The Lions Road landslip deteriorated further at the weekend, however Council still working towards re-opening the road by the end of the month.
Council is currently working on a causeway and some drainage issues on Horseshoe Creek Road. Council also is fixing a spring on Imesons Road, and repairing post flood drainage issues on Station Road today.
Council intends to cut a track around the landslip on Wender Road this week to ensure residents have reliable access.
Emergency repairs on the ‘sink hole’ on Simpkins Creek Road were completed at the weekend. This is an ongoing concern to Council and Council will continue to monitor the site.
Council is patching potholes today on Clarence Way, Kyogle Road, Fawcetts Plain Road and Cawongla Road. Pothole patching will continue on Clarence Way throughout the week. Other roads to be targeted this week will include Wiangaree Back Road, Findon Creek Road, and Omagh Road.
Council attempted to restart the Sandilands repair project on Clarence Way, however saturated ground conditions have forced work crews to relocate to Hootons Road. Council work crews will return to the Clarence Way project once the Hootons Road project is complete. Fingers crossed that ground conditions will have improved by then.
Cawongla landslip update
/in NEWSKyogle roads update – 7 April 2022
/in NEWSWork to repair a sink hole on Link Road took longer than expected today, with the road crew encountering worse than anticipated conditions.
The road remains closed, however it is expected to be re-opened tomorrow morning, weather permitting.
The longer than expected job on Link Road has delayed the start of work on the side track around the Lillian Rock Road landslip. The work crew and equipment will move from Link Road to Lillian Rock Road tomorrow once the sink hole is repaired. The side track is expected to take a couple of weeks to complete.
Council today also fixed a causeway at Warra Warra Lane which was impeding access for local residents. Council would like to thank the resident who alerted Council to the problem, as Council’s inspection crews had not managed to get to the area as yet.
Roads that Council expects to remain closed for some time, and which have alternate routes, are:
- Geneva Street
- Lions Road (at Murphy Standfield’s culvert)
- Boomi Creek Road (Council expects to start work on the culvert next week)
Work continues on the Cawongla landslip remediation project. Kyogle Road continues to be closed at the landslip from 8.30am-3.30pm weekdays, and re-opens to one lane of traffic after 3.30pm. It is open all weekend.
The Bruxner Highway remains open to all traffic, although traffic is reduced to one lane under traffic light control at the Mallanganee Range and Rodgers Road.

/in NEWSHave your say on new Community Strategic Plan
/in NEWSWhat is your vision for the Kyogle LGA?
Council has started work on a new Community Strategic Plan, or CSP, for Kyogle and the villages and wants the community to have a voice in what it says.
The purpose of the CSP is to set out the community’s vision for the future and identify what Council, and its partners, will do to achieve those goals.
This is a community-informed plan, so we need your input.
To have your say, complete the community survey which is available online by following this link.
Paper copies of the survey are also available by calling 02 6632 1611. Council staff will be happy to send a copy to you in the mail.
The survey is only one way Council will be engaging with the community during the development of this plan.
Council staff will be out in the community during April and May meeting with community groups and setting up stalls at community markets.
Keep an eye out and come and have a conversation.
Council welcomes your input and feedback at any time. Once the plan is drafted, it will be put on public exhibition so you can provide further feedback before the Council will adopt the final plan in June this year.
