Works update – 10 March 2023

Council’s grading crews are currently completing flood damage repairs to Gordons, McClellands, Babyl Creek, Haystack, Hootons and Wiangaree Back road as well as Mahoneys Lane.
Once these roads are finished the grading crews will move on to Lynches Creek, Gorge Creek, Roseberry Creek, Creegans, Williams and Edenville roads. Work on Edenville Road will include an urgent rip and return to gravel on part of the sealed section of the road.
Council is currently undertaking sealed road repairs on Kyogle, Findon Creek, Peacock Creek and Sextonville roads. The road construction crew continues to work on the remediation of the Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville.
Flood damage drainage repairs are being undertaken on Kyogle, Peacock Creek, Wyndham, Roseberry Creek, Dunns, Joyces, Babyl Creek, and Wiangaree Back roads. Crews are also patching potholes on Kyogle streets and Clarence Way.
All of the identified landslips on Tabulam Road have now been repaired, with work progressing on landslips on Clarence Way and Kyogle, Peacock Creek, and Creegans roads.
Council is currently waiting for funding approval for the remediation of the three landslips on Lions Road, with work on all three expected to start in April. Council has consultants working on designs for the repair of the 15 highest priority landslips.
The new Chestnut Road, Larsson Road, and Deep Creek Road bridges opened to traffic this week. Work on Levers Road Bridge has also been completed and will be open to traffic once the concrete deck has cured.
Work is continuing on the new Gears Bridge on Duck Creek Road, with work to start soon on new bridges on Collins Valley, Roseberry Creek, Old Lawrence, and Horseshoe Creek roads.
Contractors have started work on new bridges on Old Cob o Corn and Bailey Bridge roads.

Works update – 1 March 2023

Council has now completed 53 of the 93 bridges we received funding to replace under the Fixing Country Bridges, Bridge Renewal and Page Bridge Package programs.
The latest bridges opened to traffic were Capeen Creek No.2 and Iron Pot Creek Bridge. Both were finished last week.
Bridge crews are currently working on new bridges on Chestnut, Larsson, Deep Creek, Levers and Duck Creek roads.  Work will start within the next few weeks on bridge replacements on Baileys Bridge Road, Old Cob O Corn Road and Tims Lane.
Baileys Bridge Road will remain closed while the work is undertaken and Tims Lane will be closed when work starts. Old Cob O Corn Road will also be closed at the bridge, however Council is working with locals to minimise disruptions.
Flood damage drainage repairs are currently being undertaken on Kyogle, Peacock Creek, Eden Creek, Roseberry Creek, Ettrick, Imesons, Joyces and Babyl Creek roads.
Grading crews are doing flood damage repairs on Old Lawrence, Coxs, Doohans, Beech, and Pines roads. Once these roads are finished, the graders will move to Turpentine, Warrazambil Creek, Apple Tree, Taylors, Dingo Gully, McClelland, Williams, Provians, Babyl Creek, Gooleys and Edenville roads.
Sealed road flood damage repairs are in progress on Peacock Creek, Kyogle, Findon Creek, and McDonalds Bridge roads. Remediation works on Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville are continuing.
Work to repair landslips on Tabulam, Kyogle and Creegans roads is progressing. Work will start on landslips on Peacock Creek, Horseshoe Creek and Hayes roads within the next week.
Council has so far completed repairs on 19 of the 95 identified landslips on its road network. A further 15 are programmed to be repaired soon, while repairs to another 13 are currently in design.

Planned works at Kyogle landfill postponed

Work to upgrade the general waste drop off area at the Kyogle landfill have been postponed until further notice.
Unforeseen circumstances have forced Council to delay the work which was due occur in February/March.
Council will provide further information once the work has been rescheduled.

Works update – 2 February 2023

Flood damage grading crews are working on Sextonville, Strains, Rices, Richmond Range, Tunglebung Creek and Knights roads.

Sealed road flood damage remediation works are happening on Theresa Creek and Collins Creek roads. Crews will start on McDonalds Bridge/Sextonville Road mid-February.

Drainage works are being undertaken on Sextonville, Strains, Tunglebung, Mahoneys, Kyogle, Eden Creek, Boorabee, Theresa Creek, and Richmond Range roads, with work to start on Roseberry Creek Road next week.

Road construction crews are working on projects on Dyraaba Road, with the initial seal scheduled to take place next week (as always weather permitting) and remediation works on the Urbenville to Woodenbong section of Clarence Way. Another section of Clarence Way is to be sealed next week.

Work crews are cleaning out culverts on Clarence Way between Bonalbo and Urbenville as part of Council’s investigations prior to the $20 million upgrade of that stretch of the road. There will also be pavement testing conducted over the next couple of weeks.

Pothole patching is happening on Clarence Way, streets in the West of the Range villages and Ettrick and Lynches Creek roads.

Works are continuing on new bridges on Deep Creek, Capeen Creek, Tunglebung, Levers, and Old Lawrence roads. The concrete deck poured on the new bridge on Iron Pot Creek Road is curing and the bridge will open to traffic next week.

The landslip on Lofts Pinnacle Road has been repaired, and work on landslips on Kyogle Road at Cawongla, Lions Road at Cougal and Old Cob O Corn Road is due to be finished later this week. Work is continuing on landslips on Kyogle Road (near Williams Road) and Tabulam Road.

Works update – 25 January 2023

Council has completed repairs on landslips on Wender Road and Kyogle Road, near Bolziccos Road. However, the Kyogle Road repair work is waiting on a final seal.

Work to remediate slips on Kyogle Road, near Williams Road, Lofts Pinnacle Road, and Lions Road is expected to be completed next week.

Flood damage drainage works are currently being undertaken on Bonners Lane and Kyogle, Collins Creek, Tunglebung Creek, Theresa Creek, Eden Creek, Sextonville, Strains, Lions, and Edenville roads.

Flood damage grading crews are working on Brindle Creek, Tunglebung Creek, Collins Valley, Sextonville and Theresa Creek roads. Council also is patching sections of Collins Creek and Theresa Creek roads.

One of Council’s bridge crews is currently carrying out abutment works on Capeen Creek Bridge No 2, with installation of girders and decks expected to occur in the next month. Meanwhile, the deck on the new bridge on Iron Pot Creek Road was poured this week and abutment works started on the new Levers Road Bridge.

Work is continuing on new bridges on Tunglebung Creek, Old Lawrence, and Deep Creek roads.

Pothole patching is occurring in Bonalbo today, with that crew then to move to Clarence Way. Other pothole patching crews are working on Wiangaree Back Road and Ettrick Road.

Remediation of the Clarence Way between Urbenville and Woodenbong is ongoing, while the initial seal on the new section of Dyraaba Road is set be completed by the end of February.

Ettrick Community-led Resilience Team meeting

Red Cross Emergency Services is inviting residents of Ettrick and surrounds to join them for a community conversation about creating a Community-led Resilience Team (CRT) to help connect and support before, during and after emergencies.

The meeting will include a presentation by the Red Cross outlining what a CRT is followed by a connecting with neighbours.

Works update – 18 January 2023

The new Capeen Creek Bridge Number 1 was opened to traffic today. Council started building the bridge last year and it is the second of three new bridges on Capeen Creek Road that have so far been completed. Work on the third bridge is in progress.
The new bridge on Pines Road (pcutured) has also been opened to traffic.
Work on new bridges on Tunglebung, Iron Pot and Levers roads is continuing, while work began this week on new bridges on Old Lawrence and Deep Creek roads.
Pothole patching crews are currently working on Horseshoe Creek and Green Pigeon roads and Clarence Way. They will be moving to the Ettrick area next.
Roadworks have recommenced on Dyraaba Road and Clarence Way between Urbenville and Woodenbong. Council also is carrying out interim repairs on Ettrick Road (Kyogle end), with the work expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Flood damage grading crews are working on Trentys Lane and Pitches, Yabbra, Killaloe and Sextonville roads. Sealed road flood rehabilitation works are being carried out on Bingeebeebra, Theresa Creek and Collins Creek roads.
Landslips are being repaired on Lost Pinnacle Road, Kyogle Road near Williams Road and Kyogle Road near Bolziccos Road. Work to repair a landslip on Old Cobb O Corn Road is expected to start by the end of the week. Council also is undertaking landslip repair investigations on Boundary and Ettrick roads.

Works update – 4 January 2023

Council crews were kept busy last night (3 January) and today clearing trees and debris from roads in the Woodenbong area after a violent storm swept through on Tuesday evening.
While a fair mess remains, Boomi Creek Road is the only road left closed. It is expected to be re-opened sometime tomorrow.
Council’s work crews will progressively return to work over the coming weeks, however work has started on new bridges on Levers Road and Horseshoe Creek Road and a grading crew is working on Trentys Lane.
All the road construction crews remain on leave.
A pothole patching crew is working on Kyogle Road this week (when it’s not clearing trees downed in the storm). Another pothole patching team will return to work next week and the two crews will then be targeting Clarence Way, Bentley Road, and Cawongla Road.
Work on the landslips and gravel road flood damage repairs will recommence from 9 January.

Works update – 21 December 2022

It’s been a big week for our work crews, with interim works to repair a landslip under the Geneva Bridge completed — this included the installation of 119 cubic metres of shotcrete — and the new Olesons Bridge on Collins Creek Road now open to traffic.
Landslips repairs on Oxbow Road and the first one of four on Tabulam Road have also been completed.
The construction project on the Clarence Way at Sandilands was finished yesterday, when the final of two seals was laid. The first section of the remediation works on the Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville was sealed today.
Temporary seals at Salty Creek and Sandy Creek on the Clarence Way were also completed this week, while pothole crews have been busily working on Kyogle Road and Clarence Way.
Council’s work crews will finish up this afternoon for a well-earned Christmas break after a challenging and often difficult year. They will progressively return from 3 January 2023 to resume work on their ongoing projects.

Christmas-New Year closures and opening hours

Council’s administration centre will close for the Christmas-New Year period at midday on Thursday 22 December, 2022 and re-open at 8.30am on Tuesday, 3 January, 2023.

During that time, a skeleton staff will be working, carrying out regular facilities cleaning and maintenance and water and sewer operations. For emergencies during this time, please call Council’s after-hours number 6626 6800.

Operating times for Council’s waste facilities over the Christmas-New Year period are as follows:

Kyogle Waste Facility:

  • Open 7:30am – 12pm: Thursday, 22 December; Friday 23, December; Wednesday, 28 December; Thursday, 29 December; Friday, 30 December.
  • Open 9am – 4pm: Saturday, 24 December; Saturday, 31 December.
  • Closed: Sunday, 25 December; Monday, 26 December; Tuesday, 27 December; Sunday, 1 January, 2023; Monday, 2 January 2023.

Woodenbong Transfer Station:

  • Open 9am – 4pm: Saturday, 31 December; Tuesday, 3 January, 2023.
  • Closed: Tuesday, 27 December.

Bonalbo Transfer Station:

  • Open 9am – 4pm: Saturday, 24 December; Wednesday, 28 December; Saturday, 31 December; Wednesday, 4 January, 2023.

Mallanganee Transfer Station:

  • Open 9am – 4pm: Thursday, 22 December; Thursday, 29 December.
  • Closed: Sunday, 25 December; Sunday, 1 January 2023.

Please note that garbage collection services will run as normal if they fall on a public holiday.

As is always the case, all of Council’s swimming pools (Kyogle, Woodenbong and Bonalbo) will be closed on Christmas Day (Sunday, 25 December) and Boxing Day (Monday, 26 December).

Opening hours for the pools on other public holidays during this period (apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day) are: Kyogle 10am-6pm: Bonalbo and Woodenbong 2-6pm, noting that Bonalbo pool is closed on Tuesdays.

Works update – 16 December 2022

The upgrade of the Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee Range has been completed. The construction crew will move to the western side of the range to start another major project on the Bruxner Highway in February.

The rehabilitation of the Clarence Way at Sandilands will be finished next week. The first section of the road was sealed this week, with bitumen to be laid on the second and final section mid next week. This crew will then move to work on the Clarence Way north of Bonalbo near the cemetery.

The upgrade of Dyraaba Road is on schedule to be completed in January.

Due to contractor availability, the crew working on Bingeebeebra Creek Road has had to pause that job and will be completing emergency patch ups on Theresa Creek and Edenville roads next week. Work on the Bingeebeebra Creek Road job will resume in the new year.

The first section of the Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville to be remediated will be sealed next week. Some sections will be left unsealed over the break, but the crew will be back on the job early in the new year.

Landslip repairs have been completed on Dyraaba and Kyogle roads and are continuing on Oxbow, Wender, and Afterlee roads and four sites on Tabulam Road. Interim works at Geneva Bridge are on target to be completed before the Christmas break.

The new Olesons Bridge on Collins Creek Road will be open to traffic next week, while work continues on Capeen Creek Bridges numbers 1 and 2, and the new bridges on Levers Road, Tunglebung Creek, Pines and Iron Pot Creek roads.

Flood damage drainage repairs are continuing on Horseshoe Creek, Askews Dip, Tunglebung, Eden Creek, Ferndale, Pines, James, Gooley, Old Lawrence, and Hillyards roads. The crews will move to Yongurra, Bairds, Duck Creek, Capeen Creek, O’Donnell, Edenville, and Butlers roads.

Grading crews are working to repair flood damage on Joes Box, Yabbra, Brindle Creek, Proctors, and Theresa Creek roads. The next roads to be targeted will be Tree Fern, Eggins, Slaughter Gully, and Davis roads.

Seale road flood damage repairs also have started on Collins Creek Road.

Potholes are being patched on Clarence Way with an extra crew starting next week focusing on Yabbra Scrub. The pothole crews have completed jobs on Bentley and Gradys Creek roads and are currently working on Kyogle Road.

 

$22M for flood affected primary industries supply chain

Agricultural processing businesses that were impacted by the February and March 2022 floods are being assisted to re-establish operations through the Australian and NSW Government’s $22 million Supply Chain Support Program.
  • Eligible processors that experienced direct flood damage can apply for up to $2 million to support projects such as the replacement of damaged plant and machinery, business and product diversification or transporting product from outside the area.
  •  Processing businesses indirectly impacted by floods through major supply chain disruptions can apply for up to $250,000.
Eligible applicants must be located in one of the 62 local government areas (LGAs) impacted by AGRN 1012, as listed at nsw.gov.au/disaster-recovery/natural-disaster-declarations, or represent members that have been impacted.

Works update – 7 December

The upgrade of the Bruxner Highway on the Mallanganee Range is all but complete.
Council’s construction crew sealed the road yesterday and all that remains is the cleanup. The crew will now move to the western side of the range where they will start a $4 million upgrade project on the highway. The work will involve widening a section of the highway, adding kerb and guttering, and improving the road surface.
Council will be sealing the first of two sections of Clarence Way at Sandilands on Friday, with the second section to be sealed before the Christmas break.
The upgrade of Dyraaba Road continues. Work has started on laying the base course of the new section of the road. Council had hoped to complete the project before the break, however it looks more likely that it will now be January before it is finished.
Council also has a construction crew undertaking flood damage rehabilitation on the sealed section of Bingeebeebra Creek Road.
Council has started remediating the troubled section of the Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville (see picture). The crew is currently working between Urbenville and Becks Bridge, but they will also tidy up a number of the worst sections of the road before the break.
Flood damage grading is happening on Brindle Creek, Green Pigeon, Joes Box and Yabbra roads. Flood damage drainage crews are still on Wender, Tabulam, Bentley, Bean Creek, Cob O Corn, Lynches Creek , Pines, Old Lawrence, Bingeebeebra and Old Dyraaba roads. Once these jobs are completed, they will move to Tulks, Hillyards, Shorts, Brown Knob, Newtons, James, Gooley, and Saunders roads as well as the Roseberry and Boorabee catchments.

The other pothole patching crew is finishing up on Gradys Creek Road and will then move to Bentley Road and Kyogle Road with aim of doing as much as possible before the break.
Work is progressing at Olesons Bridge on Collins Creek Road, and at Capeen Creek Bridges number 1 and 2. Work has started on a new bridge on Levers Road. Work on the new bridges on Tunglebung Creek, Pines and Iron Pot Creek roads continues.

Works update – 1 December 2022

Flood damage drainage crews are currently working on Wender, Tabulam, Bentley, Bean Creek, Cob O Corn, Lynches Creek , Pines, Old Lawrence, Bingeebeebra and Old Dyraaba roads.

Once the crews are finished at these locations they will move to: Tulks, Hillyards, Shorts, Brown Knob, Newtons, James, Gooley, and Saunders roads as well as the Roseberry and Boorabee catchments.

Heavy patching/flood damage repairs on Tabulam Road have been completed and the crew has moved to Mallanganee. They will then move on to Bingeebeebra Road. The second sealed roads crew will start work on Collins Creek Road soon.

Flood damage grading crews are currently working on Haystack, Gambleys, and Green Pigeon roads and are expected to be back in action at Brindle Creek tomorrow. Upcoming roads to be graded include Eggins, Joes Box, Yabbra, and Killaloe.

Council has completed repairs to landslips on Davis, Wainwrights, and Blackhorse roads. Interim repair work on the slip on the western abutment of Geneva Bridge should be completed by the end of December.

Construction crews continue to work on Dyraaba Road, the Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee Range, and on Clarence Way at Sandilands, with works at all three sites scheduled to finish in December.

Work to remediate the Clarence Way between Woodenbong and Urbenville will start next week. Sealed road flood damage repair jobs at Findon Creek Road, Theresa Creek Road and Kyogle Road are expected to start in the new year.

Pothole patching continues on Clarence Way and Gradys Creek Road. Council crews will be focusing on the higher trafficked roads between now and Christmas.

Micro pilling is in progress at Olesons Bridge on Collins Creek Road, while work is powering on at Capeen Creek Bridges number 1 and 2.

Armstrongs Bridge on Tunglebung Creek Road has been completed and the crew has moved up the road to Trynneys Bridge. Work on the new bridges on Pines and Iron Pot Creek roads continues.

The culvert crew is finishing up the culvert replacement on Wiangaree Back Road and will then move to Nolans Road.

 

Draft Richmond River estuary Scoping Study on public exhibition

Northern Rivers councils are taking a whole-catchment approach to develop a new long-term strategy to protect and improve the health of the Richmond River estuary. Once complete, the Coastal Management Program (CMP) will include actions to restore and maintain the ecological sustainability of the Richmond River estuary.
Hydrosphere Consulting has now prepared a draft Stage 1 Scoping Study and they are asking for the community’s feedback.
The Study identifies knowledge gaps and outlines how the new CMP will be developed and the community engagement process.
Submission close 5pm Friday 16 December 2022.

Works update – 16 November 2022

Work has started on repairs to the slip on the western abutment of the Geneva Bridge.
Contractors will be installing “soil nails” over the next 10 days and will then shotcrete scour protection around the abutment.
These are interim works to protect the structure while Council awaits the final design and repairs. This is expected to be a major project and will take much of next year to complete.
Contractors are working to repair a landslip on Haystack Road and works also will start within the next month on eight landslips on Wainwrights, Tabulam, Davis, and Williams roads.
Flood damage drainage crews are this week working on Davis, Green Pigeon, Jasper Iverson, Old Cobb O Corn, Lynches Creek, Ghinni Ghi, Old Lawrence, Bingeebeebra, and Pitches roads. The drainage crews will move on to the following roads in upcoming weeks: Killaloe, Proctors, Elliotts, Slaughter Gully, Newtons, Brown Knob, Pines, Roseberry Creek and Eggins.
Council is currently grading and carrying out flood damage repairs at Gradys Creek, Bingeebeebra, Needhams, and Horseshoe Creek roads. Crews will then move to Brindle Creek, Eggins, Jasper Iverson and Green Pigeon roads.
Pothole patching is continuing on Clarence Way and Gradys Creek Road.
Construction crews continue to work on Dyraaba Road, the Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee Range, and on Clarence Way at Sandilands. A construction crew continues to carry out repairs to the most heavily potholed sections of Clarence Way around Medhurst.
One of bridge crews is now working on the replacement Olesens Bridge on Collins Creek Road, while the approaches to the new Curtis Dip bridge on Duck Creek Road are expected to be completed by December.
Works are in progress on Capeen Creek Bridge No 1 and 2, Armstrongs Bridge on Tunglebung Creek Road, and bridges on Pines Road and Iron Pot Creek Road.
Council has finished work on a new double culvert on Bolziccos Road and is now working on a new culvert on Wiangaree Back Road.

Australia Day Award nominations open

Nominations have opened for the 2023 Kyogle, West of the Range and Woodenbong Australia Day Awards.

The awards recognise and reward individuals for noteworthy achievements and contribution to community.

In Kyogle, awards will be presented in seven categories, with the Kyogle Lions Club once again running the Australia Day awards and celebrations.

Mills Bridge, Capeen Creek Road

ROADS UPDATE-2 NOVEMBER 2022 

Temporary sealing will be carried out this week at landslip sites on Kyogle Road. Pothole patching crews are working on Bruxner Highway and Summerland Way and roadside vegetation slashing is underway on Kyogle Road.

Road construction crews continue to work on projects on Dyraaba Road, the Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee Range, and on Clarence Way at Sandilands. A construction crew is also carrying out temporary repairs to the most heavily potholed sections of Clarence Way around Medhurst.

The bridge crew at Mills Bridge on Capeen Creek Road is finishing up this week and moving on to the next double-span bridge on Capeen Creek Road where preparations will begin in readiness for piling to be carried out next week. Construction of the new Curtis Dip Bridge on Duck Creek Road is complete and once that crew has finished tidy up of the site and removal of the side track, they will move to Capeen Creek Road and start on the last load-limited bridge.

The bridge crew that completed Green Pigeon Mill Bridge late last week has now shifted to Bonalbo where they are constructing a viewing platform at the lagoon in Norman Johnston Park. Once the project is done, they will move to the far end of Collins Creek Road to replace Olesens Bridge.

At Tunglebung Creek, work is well underway on replacement of Armstrongs Bridge with the sidetrack in place, removal of the old structure complete, and the crew commencing on bulk excavation and preparation for working slabs. A bridge crew is concreting abutments and formwork at Pines Road and another is working on abutments at Iron Pot Creek Road.

Work is in progress on the replacement of a double culvert on Bolziccos Road and once this job is complete, the crew will move on to replace a culvert on Wiangaree Back Road. A second culvert crew is finalising installation of stormwater pits in Bonalbo village.

Northern Rivers Employment and Industrial Land Business Survey

Northern Rivers Joint Organisation and RDA Northern Rivers has commissioned HillPDA to undertake an audit of industrial and employment lands in the seven LGAs of Ballina Shire, Byron Shire, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed Shire, which will be referred to as the “Northern Rivers”.

The Northern Rivers region is experiencing rapid growth in retail, building and construction, personal services, tourism and hospitality. Promoting economic growth and identifying future employment and industrial lands is critical to the economic well-being of the Northern Rivers and its residents.
A survey has been developed to gain the perspective of both local businesses and those that may be interested in establishing in the Northern Rivers. Your responses will be confidential and used to inform the employment land study being prepared by HillPDA.

Road works update – 20 October 2022

Flood damage crews are continuing to work their way around the catchments. Flood damage drainage crews are currently working at Horseshoe Creek Road and associated roads (when complete, this crew will move on to Green Pigeon), Oxbow Road (moving on to Kyogle Road), Yabbra Road, Gradys Creek Road and associated roads, Warrazambil Creek Road and Warra Warra Road (moving on to Roseberry Creek), Ghinni Ghi Road (moving on to Imesons Road), Faulkners Road, the far end of Collins Creek Road, Parkes Road (moving on to Trentys Lane).
Flood damage grading crews are currently operating at Main Creek Road, Ryans Creek Road, Pigman Road, and Lindesday Creek Road with heavy patching crews working at Tabulam Road and Racecourse Road.
Bridge construction is underway at six sites in our local government area (LGA) – Duck Creek Road, Capeen Creek Road (pictured), Tunglebung Creek Road, Green Pigeon Road, Ironpot Creek Road, and Pines Road.
Road construction crews continue work on projects at Sandilands on Clarence Way, Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee, and the initial seal of Dyraaba Road.
Geotechnical investigation (drilling) at landslip sites is taking place this week at Forest Road, Creegans Road, Wender Road, Lillian Rock Road, and Kyogle Road.
Pothole patching crews are working on Clarence Way, Summerland Way, and Wiangaree Back Road

CSIRO Northern Rivers Resilience Innitiative

The CSIRO has been engaged to undertake a project to understand flood risk factors in the Northern Rivers region of NSW and identify flood mitigation options as part of a whole-of-catchment flood mitigation study.

This study will inform the allocation of $150 million in funding from the Federal Government to support the NSW Government to fast-track resilience efforts in the region.

They are starting the community consultation across the Northern Rivers and will be holding a Kyogle session at the Kyogle Showgrounds, Kyogle – Monday 31 October.

At the sessions you can meet with the Project Team to review the preliminary results of their flood mitigation and resilience project prioritisation and discuss your views about what measures or criteria are important to you and your community and should be used to assess the identified flood mitigation project ideas and proposals.

Free Community Assistance Day

The Energy and Water Ombudsman is hosting a Community Assistance Day at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre on Thursday, 27 October between 10am-3pm.

This free event is for Northern Rivers residents to access information and advice about a range of different issues.

Community and government services will be on hand to help with questions about energy and water bills, support for Seniors and Carers, legal advice, rental rights, government support, payment of fines and more.

Road works update – 28 September

Flood damage grading crews are working on Main Creek, Pirlos Old Dyraaba, Brumbies Plains, and Deep Creek roads. After these jobs are completed, the crews will move to Gradys Creek, Ryans Creek, Glen, Eggins, and Old Bruxner roads and Trentys Lane.
The heavy patching crew has started on sealed road repairs, working first on Theresa Creek Road and then moving to Racecourse Road.
Council is still doing flood drainage repairs in the Collins Creek, Cawongla, Gradys Creek, Ettrick, Dyraaba and Woodenbong areas.
Road construction crews continue to work on projects at Sandilands on the Clarence Way, the initial seal on Dyraaba Road and the Bruxner Highway at the Mallanganee Range.
Pothole patching continues on the Clarence Way, with the crew currently working at Salty Flat. Council is also pothole patching in the Kyogle urban area and will then move to the Summerland Way.
Council is building new bridges on Capeen Creek, Duck Creek, Tunglebung Creek, Iron Pot Creek, and Green Pigeon roads. When this group of bridges has been completed, Council will have reached the halfway mark in the Fixing County Bridges and Bridge Renewal programs – Council had 94 bridge to construct over a period of three years.
Investigation and design works continue for the major landslips. You will see drilling rigs at Williams, Creegans and Lynches Creek roads over the coming week.
Council’s culvert crew is working at Findon Creek, Long Creek and Iron Pot Creek Roads.

Flood Property Assessment team in Kyogle on Thursday

The NSW Government’s Flood Property Assessment team will be in Kyogle on Thursday (September 29).
The team will be set up in Stratheden Street across the road from the Kyogle Memorial Institute Hall from 9am-4pm and can assist residents, businesses and primary producers with accessing:
👉 a free property assessment, including an inspection report and repair schedule with estimated costs,
👉 if required, an electrical make safe and structural inspection,
👉 free property demolition if applicable and only with the property owners consent,
👉 Disaster Relief Grant

Roads update – 21 September

Crews are working to repair minor landslips and drainage damaged in the February/March floods on Sargents, Kyogle, Creegans, Yabbra, Gradys Creek, Lynches Creek,  Iron Pot Creek, and Racecourse roads.

Once these works are completed, the crews will move on to Horseshoe Creek, Cawongla, Williams, Cedargetters, Warrazambil, Ghinni Ghi, Nolans, and Collins Creek roads.

Flood damage grading crews are working on Main Creek Road, Goanna Creek Road, Old Dyraaba Road, and Brumby Plains Road.   From there, they will move to Gradys Creek Road, Ryans Creek Road, Eggins Road, and Glen Road.

Council’s construction crews are currently working on projects on the Bruxner Highway at the Mallanganee Range, Dyraaba Road, Old Dyraaba Road and the Clarence Way at Sandilands.

Pothole patching crews are working this week in Tabulam, Kyogle,  and along the Clarence Way.

Piling has been completed and concrete work has started on new bridges being built on Capeen Creek, Duck Creek and Tunglebung Creek roads.  Piling is expected to start on the new bridge being built on Green Pigeon Road in late September, and the new bridge on Pines Road in early October. Work has started on a side track around the new bridge site on Iron Pot Creek Road.

Council’s culvert crew completed a bridge to pipes project on Ferndale Road last week.
