Bonalbo Flood Study
The Bonalbo Flood Study was adopted by Council on 21 October 2021.
Prepared by consulting engineering firm BG&E, the aim of the study was to develop a detailed understanding of the flood behavior at Bonalbo, from both Peacock Creek (mainstream flooding) and the local catchment drainage through the town. Detailed hydrologic analysis and hydraulic modelling were undertaken to map the predicted flood extents, levels, depths, velocities and hazards associated with a range of possible flood types from a 1 in 5 year flood, up to a 1 in 500 year event and the PMF Event (Probable Maximum Flood). The study also considered the predicted effects of climate change on flood behavior. In preparing the Bonalbo Flood Study, the consultants used information collected from the public in a questionnaire about the community’s experience of flooding.
The information in the flood study was used to create a Floodplain Risk Management Plan which sets out measures to minimise the risk and consequences of future flooding. The Bonalbo Floodplain Risk Management Study and the Bonalbo Floodplain Risk Management Plan were adopted by Council at the ordinary meeting held 8 April 2024.
