The latest exhibition at Council’s Roxy Gallery, Quilts and Beyond, celebrates the talents of local women who have been sewing together skills and stories through quilting.
Working with quality fabrics and other materials, the Kyogle Quilters gather regularly to share needlework skills and sewing techniques.
Quilts and Beyond will drape the Roxy Gallery space until 3 April, 2022.
The exhibition features the works of 14 women who share a passion for sewing and needlework and have encouraged each other to learn and develop skills and sewing techniques such as hand piecing and machine piecing, applique, needle turn, embroidery, fabric and thread painting and Sashiko (Japanese stitching).
Applying the simply techniques of quilting, the group has discovered thousands of quilting patterns, and that in turn has led them to try many other sewing techniques.
As well as quilts, group members have created decorative wall hangings, table runners, place mats, children’s toys and material books, handbags, clothing and the list goes on.
All of these creations will be available for purchase in the exhibition.
The official opening will be held on Friday 11 March from 6-8pm and will provide the perfect opportunity for the community to meet and speak with the members of the Kyogle Quilters Group.
