Household Asbestos Disposal Scheme

NE Waste is working in collaboration with Kyogle Council to offer Household Asbestos Disposal Kits to assist householders to safely and legally remove bonded asbestos in small home renovations (under 10m² of sheets of fibro).

The Household Asbestos Disposal Kits are partially funded by Kyogle Council to reduce the costs associated with handling asbestos. Household Asbestos Disposal Kits are FREE for all residents and available from:

Kyogle Landfill Facility
Address: Runnymede Road, Kyogle NSW 2474

The kits are WorkCover NSW approved and contain the following items:

  • 2 x P2 disposable masks with valve
  • 2 x disposable type 5&6 coveralls(size XL)
  • 2 x disposable shoe covers non-slip sole
  • 2 x pairs disposable gloves
  • 2 x  safety glasses
  • 1x spray bottle
  • 1 x roll heavy duty duct tape
  • 1 x roll red/white barrier tape
  • 1 x ‘Danger Asbestos’ label
  • 2 x Pakaflex 700mm x 1100 asbestos bags

The household asbestos disposal scheme seeks to improve work health and safety by insisting that the guidelines for the safe removal and disposal of asbestos as recommended by Council, the Environment Protection Authority and WorkCover NSW are complied with.

  1. Appropriate personal protective safety equipment should be used during the removal process.
  2. Asbestos must be damped down prior to packaging. When damping down, care must be taken to ensure no fibres dislodge.
  3. Asbestos must be double wrapped in parcels of up to 200kgs before transporting to the Landfill. The plastic wrapping must not rupture during the disposal process.
  4. Tippers & ROROs maximum 4 tonne per load for sheeting.
  5. Customers with asbestos in an unacceptable condition may be refused entry and the matter referred to WorkCover.
  6. All asbestos remains the property of the owner until it is deposited in the landfill
  7. Council recommends the use of asbestos handling bags such as ‘Hazibag or Tuff Bag’ for larger quantities of asbestos.

* Note: General waste does not include asbestos, potentially hazardous materials, tyres and whitegoods that have not been de-gassed. Fees apply for such materials and items.

Environmental Monitoring

Council monitors surface water and ground water at its landfill sites on a quarterly basis. It is a requirement under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 that this be made public. For further information please see Environmental Monitoring.
