Bonalbo Flood Study

Prepared by consulting engineering firm BG&E, the study aims to develop a detailed understanding of the flood behavior at Bonalbo, from both Peacock Creek (mainstream flooding) and the local catchment drainage through the town.

Detailed hydrologic analysis and hydraulic modelling has been undertaken to map the predicted flood extents, levels, depths, velocities and hazards associated with a range of possible flood types from a 1 in 5 year flood, up to a 1 in 500 year event and the PMF Event (Probable Maximum Flood).

The study also considers the predicted effects of climate change on flood behavior.

In preparing the study, the consultants used information collected from the public in a questionnaire about the community’s experience of flooding.

Ultimately, information in the flood study will be used to develop a Floodplain Risk Management Plan which will set out measures to minimise the risk and consequences of future flooding.
