SUMMARY:Dasher's Hope Exhibition - Roxy Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The end of year\, beginning of new year exhibition at the Roxy Gallery  takes on the title of ‘Dasher’s Hope’ and will be on show from 18 December 2019 – 26 January 2020. \nThe exhibition provides an opportunity for local and regional artists to exhibit in a group exhibition that is about offering — offering people  ideas for gifts and offering artists the opportunity to get their works out into the public domain. \nThe concept of this exhibition has been a tradition repeated by the Roxy Gallery over its 20 year history. By opening up the gallery to all artists\, practicing artists and those who just casually engage in making art\, this type of exhibition showcases what is happening in the creative world of our region. \nThe official opening for this exhibition will be on Wednesday December 18 from 6 – 8 pm and the all interested members of the public are welcome to come along to this social event and mingle with the creators. \nThere is opportunity for any works purchased to be removed and ready for  Christmas stockings.  So keep this in mind if you are looking for that something special and original during  Christmas gifting time and support local artists with their creative development through the purchase of their works.

SUMMARY:Summerland Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival
DESCRIPTION:Judging and weighing of the giant pumpkins and watermelons will take place at the northern end of Stratheden Street\, Kyogle\,  on 11 January 2020 between 9.30 am and 10.30am. Winners of the various divisions will receive a cash prize. \nPeople will be able to guess the weight of a giant pumpkin from 3 January 2020. The giant pumpkin will be on show at the Country Store for all to eyeball and try to estimate the weight. This competition will continue until the weighing of the competition pumpkins commences on the 11 January 2020. \nA Still Life Art Competition will be run in conjunction with the festival\, with entries in this competition to be displayed in the old IGA windows between 1 – 31 January 2020. The winning junior and senior entry will be announced on 11 January about 10.45am. \nThere will also be a Cooking Competition\, with entries on show at the KMI on 11 January from 9am. Contestants are to submit a plate of six pumpkin scones or a closed family pumpkin pie. \nPumpkin Beer – The Sugar Bowl will be offering free tastings of Pumpkin beer on the day from 10am to 12pm. \nThere will also be novelty activities for the young and old. \nBusinesses have be asked to decorate their premises to promote the Festival\, so come along and enjoy a morning celebrating the humble pumpkin and watermelon.
