The Summerland Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival gives the growers of these giants an opportunity to display the fruits of their labour and so they can be admired by the community.
There will also be a cookery contest with cooks entries to feature watermelon or pumpkin in the entry, business window dressing competition promoting the Festival, Pumpkin and Watermelon Games, and a sculpting competition.
All of these activities will be in Stratheden Street, Kyogle between 8am and 12pm on Saturday 9 January 2021.
There will also be “A taste of pumpkin and melon Week” in the week prior to the Festival where local eateries will feature pumpkin and watermelon of their menus.
Country and Western Singers will perform on the day in the library precinct.
An activity that always attracts great interest is “Guess the Weight” where people have the opportunity to guess the weight of one of these giants prior to and on the day.
Throughout January entries in the Still Life Art Competition will be displayed in the old IGA building in Summerland Way – the theme this year is “Fairies in the Melon Patch.
As this Festival is still in the planning stage, some of the activities mentioned have to be confirmed and at this stage no one can predict the effect of Covid-19 and what will and will not be permitted.
