Flying-fox Walk and Talk – Kyogle Recreation Reserve

April 16, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

The ‘Walk and Talk’ will provide you with an opportunity to view the flying-fox camp at the Kyogle Recreation Reserve first hand and you will be introduced to the three flying-fox species that can be found there.

It will give you a better understanding of the feeding habits, social behaviours and characteristics of our flying-foxes. You will learn more about the ecological importance of flying-foxes as pollinators and seed dispersers.

The actions Council is undertaking as part of the Kyogle Flying-fox Camp Management Plan, to reduce conflict between people and the flying-foxes, will also be outlined. You will be shown where the flying-fox habitat restoration project is taking place at the northern end of the Reserve and learn more about what is happening there.

Council, Kyogle Landcare, a local Bush Regenerator and an Ecologist will be on hand during the ‘Walk and Talk’ to answer any of your questions.

The walk will start from the Kyogle Landcare Nursery (next to Alcorn Park) and will follow a formed track along Fawcetts Creek. Participants are encouraged to bring a hat and water (and binoculars if you wish to see the flying-foxes up close). Light refreshments will be provided.
