Community Tree Planting Day – Kyogle Recreation Reserve

May 20, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Kyogle’s Flying-fox camp has existed along Fawcetts Creek in the Kyogle Recreation Reserve for more than 50 years. Habitat loss and removal of native vegetation is one of the biggest threats to flying-foxes causing them to relocate to more urbanised areas to find alternative food sources and roosting locations. This behaviour can cause conflict between residents and the Flying-fox.

Restoration works, as part of the Flying-fox Habitat Enhancement and Creation Project, has commenced. The project aims to rehabilitate and revegetate land at the northern end of the Kyogle Recreation Reserve in an effort to encourage Flying-foxes to roost further away from areas where they may come into conflict with humans.

Council, along with our local Bush Regenerator and Kyogle Landcare, invite you to join them for a morning of tree planting on Saturday, 20 May, from 9.30am-12pm, in an effort to restore Flying-fox habitat along Fawcetts Creek. You will have the opportunity to learn more about this on-ground project and assist with creating habitat.

No previous experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy boots and bring gloves, hat, water and sunscreen. All other tree planting equipment will be provided. Light refreshments will also be provided.

Meet at picnic tables at the northern end of the Reserve near the Cricket Oval.
