Celebration of Regeneration – Postponed

March 22 @ 11:00 am - 3:30 pm

The recent flooding caused by Cyclone Alfred has meant the project site is currently impossible to access and the Celebration of Regeneration has been postponed to a date to be confirmed, possibly in early April.

In 2019 the Upper Clarence landscape was devastated by fire and challenged by floods. The community was fortunate to secure grant funding under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund (BLERF) jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments for a Bush Regeneration Project.

For the past three years Aboriginal workers from Muli Muli and Jubullam partnered with Upper Clarence Landcare to support the natural regeneration of the bush.

A culturally significant Aboriginal scar tree was burnt down in the fire but was saved from total destruction by falling into the river.

The project recovered this tree from the river and moved it to a flood free site where a shelter was built for weather protection.

The tree lives on as an accessible statement of the history and endurance of Aboriginal culture. It demonstrates good will and reconciliation in action and builds optimism for today’s children and future generations.

All are welcome to attend the celebration which marks the completion of the regeneration project.

Come along and admire the landscape; Swim in the Clarence (lifeguard on duty); celebrate and share Wahlabul and Githabul culture; including local cultural dancing and the unveiling of the Scar Tree and art works.

Enjoy a FREE catered bush tucker-inspired lunch with Roo burgers, Lemon myrtle and pepper berry chicken burgers, Macadamia nut pie, Granny’s pumpkin pie; and Vegetarian options

How to get there: Look up the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge https://clarenceriver.com/getting-here/

Note the celebration is NOT at the Lodge, but site and carpark access is via their gate. The final drive down to the river requires a 4WD vehicle and an experienced offroad driver. You are welcome to use the shuttle service to take you down to the river and back to your vehicle. This service will be used by ALL persons with a 2WDvehicle, and those who would prefer to not use their 4WD.
