Australia Day – Kyogle, Woodenbong and Bonalbo

January 26, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Communities across the Kyogle Local Government Area (LGA) will come together to reflect, respect  and celebrate Australia Day.

The Kyogle LGA will host three official Australia Day celebrations, at Kyogle, Woodenbong and Bonalbo.

Bonalbo

2023 West of the Range Australia Day festivities will once again be held in the grounds behind the Bonalbo Bowling and Recreation Clubhouse starting at 10am.

The festivities will include barefoot bowls, an Ambrose golf competition, and the inflatable activity centre at the pool.

There will be a free sausage sizzle from 11am and the official ceremony including the presentation of the annual Australia Day Awards will kick off at 1pm.

Following the formal ceremony, there will be more fun and games with gumboot throwing, putting and tug of war competitions.

The celebrations will wind up with free live music from 5pm.

In line with Australia Day celebrations across the Kyogle LGA, entry to the Bonalbo pool will be free on the day.

Kyogle

Kyogle’s Australia Day festivities will be held at the Kyogle Amphitheatre Park and will get underway at 9am with the Kyogle Lions Club serving up a free traditional Aussie morning tea of billy tea and damper.

The official ceremony will start at 10am and will include the presentation of the Australia Day Awards and a Citizenship Ceremony.

Kyogle’s Australia Day ambassador this year is actor, television presenter and voice over artist Mike Goldman.

Mr Goldman will deliver an Australia Day address as well as present some of the Australia Day Awards.

The celebrations will conclude with a free lunch (burgers) and concert featuring local band Casual Identity.

Meanwhile, entry to the Kyogle pool also will be free on the day and there will be a DJ from 10am to 2pm, and Kyogle Lions Club will be providing free food and refreshments at the pool canteen.

Woodenbong

This year’s Australia Day celebrations will be held at the Woodenbong Hall.

The festivities will kick off at 8.30am  with billy tea and damper and will be followed by a flag raising ceremony at 9.30am and then the official proceedings, including the presentation of Australia Day Awards and an address by Australia Day Ambassador Grad Farmer AM.

Mr Farmer is the founder of the Surfrider Foundation and National Ocean Care Day.

After the official ceremony, there will a free lunch, then it’s down to the Woodenbong Recreation Ground for the annual city versus country cricket match about 1pm.

And for those who would rather celebrate Australia Day with a swim, entry to the Woodenbong pool will be free on the day.
