Draft Asset Management Policy

At its May meeting, Council resolved to place on public exhibition a draft Asset Management policy, and to call for submissions from the Public.

As part of the Division of Local Governments Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework, Council must adopt an asset management framework, which includes an asset management policy, asset management plans, and an asset management strategy. This forms part of the overall Resourcing Strategy which must be completed to show how Councils Operational Plan will be implemented.

The purpose of the Asset Management Policy is to show that Council is committed to implementing a systematic asset management methodology in order to apply appropriate asset management best practices across all areas of Council. This includes ensuring that assets are planned, created, operated, maintained, renewed and disposed of in accordance with Council’s priorities for service delivery. Council owns and uses approximately $465M of non-current assets to support its core business of delivery of service to the community.  Asset management practices impact directly on the core business of Council and appropriate asset management is required to achieve our strategic service delivery objectives. The draft Asset Management Policy is available on Councils web site at the link below, and can be viewed at Councils offices in Stratheden Street Kyogle. All submissions should be addressed to the General Manager, PO Box 11 Kyogle, and must be received by June 30, 2012.
